A POST mortem examination has revealed that a 23-year-old woman found dead at a flat in Abington suffered multiple stab wounds.
John David Nixon, a 47-year-old craftsman gardener employed by Northampton Borough Council, was arrested in connection with the murder in the early hours of yesterday morning.
He was taken to Campbell Square police station for questioning but was transferred to a specialist unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, where he underwent surgery for a knife wound.
A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: "A 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with the discovery of the body and on police arrival at the scene of the incident, he was found to be suffering from a serious injury.
"This injury has required hospital treatment and the man is currently detained in hospital for surgery to that injury." A forensic post mortem was carried out on the victim, who has not yet been formally identified, yesterday and the Home Office pathologist gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.
