A TEENAGER who police believe was travelling in a stolen car which crashed into a lamp post has died, three days after the collision.
Ben O'Connell, aged 14, died at Birmingham Children's Hospital at 2.20pm yesterday when the decision was made to turn off the life support machine which was keeping him alive.
The teenager, from Pitstone Road, Briar Hill, is believed to have been in a stolen Mercedes car which hit a lamp post then landed on its roof in a field near junction 15 of the M1 in the early hours of Easter Monday.
A police spokesman said: "Ben was taken to hospital in Birmingham with a serious head injury following the collision.
"He was placed on a life support machine on arrival at the hospital and was kept ventilated until a decision was taken to switch off the machine." The silver Mercedes Benz had been stolen from a house in Hardingstone and was followed by a police car as it headed towards the M1.
