DESIGNS for a new school have been described as "absolutely horrendous" by planners responsible for the overhaul of the proposed site.
A new St Luke's Primary School building is due to be built next to Princess Marina Hospital to replace the existing school, in Main Road, Duston.
But when members of Northampton Borough Council's planning committee met to discuss the proposals, they were shocked at the modern design, which includes flat roofs and large expanses of glass and metal.
Councillor John Yates (Lib-Dem, Boughton Green) said: "I think it's an appalling design. It looks just like an Army barracks.
"It's like lots of little boxes shoved in a field." He was backed by Councillor Christopher Malpas (Con, Billing) who said: "It's absolutely horrendous. It's hardly welcoming for children when they have to walk towards that." Other members of the planning committee also ...
