THE streets of a troubled Northampton suburb will be patrolled by police officers armed with video cameras to record teenage gangs terrorising residents.
Northamptonshire Police say patrols in Duston will be increased and officers issued with video cameras after a gang of youths went on the rampage last week.
Inspector Dave Rayfield said troublemakers would be videoed before being taken home where the tapes would be shown to their parents.
He said: "One of the main issues is that when we actually take children home to their parents they don't know what they're doing and what they're getting up to.
"In the vast majority of cases when we speak to parents they're shocked at what their children are doing, some of them just can't believe it.
"That's why we're giving officers the chance to carry video cameras so they can film what's going on and actually show it to them." Extra patrols will be carried out in Duston during the summer months to tackle gang problems which have been growing for a while.
