ROCK giants Oasis are set to return to the top of the charts . . . with Northampton music fans clamouring to get their hands on the band's latest album.
Hundreds of copies of Don't Believe The Truth, the Manchester band's sixth studio album, were snapped up within hours of its release on Bank Holiday Monday and the record is almost certain to reach number one in the album charts this weekend.
Three years on from the release of previous album Heathen Chemistry, Don't Believe The Truth is said to be Oasis back at their best, with fans set to relive the glory days of the mid-1990s Britpop era.
Virgin Megastore's assistant manager, Gareth Riley, said: "It was the biggest selling album yesterday. It outsold everything.
"It's definitely going to make it to number one. I don't think anything will stop it this week." The bands first two albums, Definitely Maybe and What's The Story? Morning Glory, saw Noel and Liam Gallagher elevated into superstar status, leading to massive sell-out concerts at Knebworth and Loch Lomond in 1996.
