CHILDREN were taken back in time to the days of World War Two as part of a special event at a Northampton museum to remember VE Day.

A week of themed events began yesterday at the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery in which youngsters learned more about what was life was like during the war. The museum events have been funded by a GBP25,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and they coincide with the museum's Gas Masks and Gravy Legs exhibition.

Debra Cox, Northampton Borough Council's museum education officer, said: "The events organised by the museum are always popular and I hope this half-term's activities will be no exception." Children crowded into the museum yesterday to see a re-enactment of the work of an ARP warden.
