It is amazing who you bump into in the City while enjoying a spot of lunch with Post Magazine journalists. Last week, one of Penny's esteemed colleagues was dining with Alexander Forbes chief John Percy Davis when he became distracted. The reason was not the immediate company so to speak but the fact his eldest son had decided to eat in the same restaurant with colleagues unbeknown to the broking boss.

How times have changed. Penny remembers the days of smoking at one's desk while typing one's latest column.
