Norwich Union has followed other insurers, entering micro-business healthcare. The NU medical insurance range, Solutions, will be made available to micro-sized companies. Previously, only individuals and companies employing 10 to 249 people have been able to take advantage of the NU package.

Mark Noble, head of intermediary sales at NU Healthcare, said: "We are responding to demand by broadening Solutions' availability to companies with two to nine employees."

David Bishop, spokesman for the Federation of Small Businesses, welcomed the package saying: "NU's plan will be well received in the micro-business community, especially if it is tailored specifically for them. There are few insurers who cover the micro business market."
