* The "Able Danger" controversy is a moving target. Able Danger was a late-1990s Defense intelligence program; some of its officials now allege that it identified Mohamed Atta and three other 9/11 hijackers as terrorists early in 2000-over a year and a half before the attacks. Two of the program's analysts say they maintained a chart with Atta's name and photograph. The Pentagon says it is searching but has thus far found no chart or other documents specifying named terrorists. Given the gravity of the charges, it is wise to reserve judgment until more facts are in. Two threads bear watching.
