Private health screening 'a waste of money'.

Mike Waites Health Correspondent PATIENTS were yesterday warned they could be wasting time and money by paying for costly private screening tests.

The British Medical Association (BMA) said tests which are not part of formal NHS screening programmes may cause more harm than good.

Doctors' leaders also warned they diverted NHS resources from the genuinely sick to the worried well.

Many leading private health providers offer tests for illnesses including cancer and heart disease while there has also been massive growth in home test kits sold on-line or by mail order.
