Nurses expected to transfer to new employers as part of NHS reforms will have their pay protected by law, according to a leading employment specialist.

Karen Didovich, a senior employment relations adviser at the RCN, said that both the public and independent sectors are legally obliged to pay Agenda for Change (AfC) terms and conditions under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1981.

But she warned that national guidance is required to prevent employers from offering different pay packages and a 'two-tier workforce' emerging.
