One of UC Berkeley's frats is out of business for the next year and faces tough standards when it reopens, according to university officials. The action is in response to a hazing incident in which a student was shot at least 30 times with a pellet gun.

The sanctions against Pi Kappa Phi include a requirement that the chapter replace all but four of its 58 members when it reopens in August 2006. New members will be required to perform community service, complete an online alcohol abuse awareness program and produce a seminar for other ...
