Aug. 17--People living in the Plateau community hope a new land-development plan will keep the area much like it is.

With most of its land undeveloped or in large tracts and few water lines to draw builders, Plateau is Catawba County's most rural section and retains the country feel that generations of families have enjoyed.

Catawba County planners heard about Plateau's love for peace, quiet and untamed beauty as they helped a resident's committee come up with a 20-year development plan.

Residents have a chance to comment on the proposal at a meeting Thursday. County commissioners will later consider the plan for…
