The insiders say we'll be keeping it simple this spring -- with gently sun-kissed skin, delicate rosy lips, and long, flowing hair. By Danielle Pergament
At half an hour before showtime, the stylists at Dolce & Gabbana in Milan ran out of shampoo. An assistant yelled across the crowded dressing area, "I saw hand soap in the bathroom -- use that!" Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman just moaned, "Why do I do this to myself? Seventy-five models, and I decide to wash everyone's hair. What's the point of that?" The point, as it turns out, was the ascendance of all things clean and simple for spring 2005. Even the Dolce & Gabbana collection of snakeskin-and-lace dresses that Stefano Gabbana described as "sexissimo" had less flash and glitz than usual. "All that extravagant stuff -- the teased upsweeps, the bright makeup -- feels out of place now," Souleiman said.
