So we have been graced with another initiative to empower patients and tackle obesity, the White Paper Choosing Health. Empowering patients, my eye. I have ranted on before that obesity is not just a medical remit and other factors need to be addressed. Ever noticed how every government highlights society's problems -- then promptly dumps them on us to deal with?

Crafty, I call it. Soon we'll be forced to run free slimming clubs to claim precious QOF points. What will we have to do to ensure successful weight loss, wire patients' jaws together? I can just picture morning jogs round the surgery car park, Mrs Gripe leading the way, resplendent in Lycra. Queues waiting …
