Aug. 10--A former Advanced Marketing Services executive has pleaded guilty to taking part in a conspiracy to defraud clients and falsify earnings at the San Diego-based book distributor.

The executive, Sandra Miller Christie, admitted in federal court in San Diego on Monday that she had conspired with other former AMS employees in a scheme to inflate the profitability of the company's advertising department.

Christie, the former vice president of the department, also acknowledged that she directed another AMS employee to falsify accounts and records to "reverse" millions of dollars in unclaimed credits owed to the firm's …
