A DRAMATIC change in the attitude of key EU officials towards the CAP threatens the future of farming in Ireland, IFA chief economist Con Lucey has warned.

Some anti-CAP officials appear to take delight in bringing down prices, he said.

He warned that the Commission is taking a 'bloody-minded approach' to cutting support prices in order to bring market prices down to support price levels.

The biggest worry for Irish farmers is that the Commission will continue to force down prices even when they have reached support price levels, said Mr Lucey.
