Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang said his government will do all it can to help Straits Times senior journalist Ching Cheong, accused by China of spying for Taiwan.

He made the pledge through his spokesman on Friday [5 August] after attending a function organized by a pro-Beijing journal, the Mirror.

But he declined to say how his government will assist Mr Ching when asked by reporters at the event, Hong Kong's Chinese-language Ming Pao Daily News reported yesterday.
