Siam Cement affiliate seeks growth overseas.

Aug. 5--Siam Pulp and Paper Plc (SPP), part of the Siam Cement Group, has geared up its plans for aggressive expansion in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, part of its plan to become a regional industry leader through acquiring overseas businesses.
Chovalit Ekabut, SPP's executive vice-president, said the company was talking with several pulp and paper plants in Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Middle East for joint ventures or outright acquisition of their businesses. Some are family-run businesses from which owners want to retire and have no heirs.
