Summer in the City
Keep from getting dirty and gritty with crisp clothes, breezy makeup, and hair that's impervious to frizz. By Danielle Pergament
If this is the year you're finally moving to the beach to open a taco stand, you can stop reading right here. If, on the other hand, you actually have to work in an office complete with cubicles, meetings, and power suits, your morning routine will involve putting on more than a bikini and sunscreen. It may seem impossible to look professional when the sauna outside competes with overzealous air-conditioning inside.
There are ways to transition seamlessly from an overheated commute to an overscheduled day. "The goal is to look neat and clean with as little makeup as possible," says makeup artist Jeannia Robinette, who created the looks on these pages. The minimalist attitude goes for hair and clothing, too. A sweltering July day in a busy office "is not the time or place to try that new Pucci print," says fashion stylist Sarajane Hoare. "You want to look fresh and feel comfortable, not make a big splashy statement." Of course, if all else fails, you can always make tacos.
