How to make a big entrance

By Kalliope Karella

Karella, the author of Weddings of Style (Assouline), divides her time between residences in New York City, Greece, and Paris.

Most women born with the ability to make a dramatic entrance end up becoming famous movie stars. Hereis how the rest of us can pull it off.

* Don't rush it. If you arrive early, youill get noticed -- but only by a few people. Come on time, and you'll walk in with a crush of others. Really, the only option is to be late. If the event starts at 8 and you show up at 9:30, when everyone else has just been seated, every head in the room will turn when you enter. It may not be polite, but it works.

* Be outrageous. If you want to demand attention, you must dress the part. This is not the time for the little black dress. My personal suggestion is to wear something unpredictable, like a wonderful sari or something minimalist and clinging (if you've got a beautiful body). A tiara or an unusual headpiece with a few feathers can also draw the eyeoand of course, a gorgeous date is the best adornment of all.
