The Archos Gmini XS 100 is a 3GB hard drive MP3 player aimed at first-time buyers and is intended to compete with the immensely popular 4GB Apple iPod mini. It also seems to represent Archos's effort to embrace the nontechie community by stripping the player down to the bare minimum. Unfortunately, the device's mediocre sound quality is further marred by terrible earbuds, and the interface simply won't win over any potential iPod buyers. We're not sure that Archos's "less for less" strategy will gain the company any market share in this segment.
