Aug. 3--TT&T Plc has set up a new subsidiary to apply for licences to provide Internet and other telecom services from the National Telecommunications Commission to generate more income to offset losses incurred by its fixed-line business.
TT&T president and chief executive Prachuab Tantinon said the new TT&T Subscriber Service would apply for Type 1 licences, which are for operators with no networks of their own. It will rent the cabling network of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority that covers all areas of Bangkok to provide the services.
