Aug. 3--Thai shares gained 1.21 percent yesterday on the back of regional gains and a flow of foreign capital following the strengthening of the baht.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 683.16 points, up 8.17 points, in trade worth 17.3 billion baht. Energy stocks, up 1.47 percent, led trade, followed by communications, up 4.26 percent, and banking, up 1.11 percent.
Viriya Lappromrattana, head of research at Kiatnakin Securities, said the extensive market gains emerged from strong foreign buying into big-cap stocks such as energy, communications and banks.
