Aug. 3--Dole Food Co. will build a vegetable-packaging plant in Gaston County, creating 525 jobs in three years and up to 900 in the next decade.
The $54 million factory primarily will employ production workers who will bag fresh vegetables for distribution in the Southern and Eastern United States, Gov. Mike Easley's office said Tuesday.
Bud Antle Inc., an indirect subsidiary of Dole, will build and equip the plant, Dole's first in North Carolina.
The jobs will pay an average of $450 a week and offer health and dental benefits.
