A severely mentally ill man has been remanded in custody after admitting two counts of arson in busy high street stores. Timothy Shears, 46, set light to clothes, fixtures and fittings in Top Shop and the department store Dingles in High Street, Exeter on May 10, Exeter Crown Court heard on Friday. Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated from the stores as firefighters battled the blaze. In the days after the incident, Top Shop sold everything in a fire damage clearance sale.
