Italian banking firm Banca Popolare di Milano (BPM) and Italian insurer Fondiaria-SAI have entered into negotiations that could culminate in the creation of a bancassurance joint venture.

The two firms have until 1 October to finalise a deal that would result in BPM selling 46 percent of its life insurance business, called Bipiemme Vita, to Fondiaria. Fondiaria would then have 18 …
