The anonymous dumping of 25 dehydrated kittens outside a cat refuge in Dundonald was slammed as "callous" last night.
Janice Watt of the Cats Protection Centre revealed the kittens were crammed into baskets and abandoned in a terrified and fragile state last week.
The dumping of the kittens comes at the height of breeding season, meaning the Centre's resources are already compromised with a total of 170 felines currently in their care.
Around two years ago, 35 kittens were dumped outside the Cats Protection Centre in similar circumstances - prompting Ms Watt to speculate the same people are behind both incidents.
She said: "I still find it hard to believe in this day and age that people are prepared to behave in such an irresponsible manner.
