The first death of a former policeman from Northern Ireland in Iraq may make Ulster recruits think twice about working as a security guards in the Middle East, whatever the cash rewards, politicians and police representatives said last night.
Former Belfast Lord Mayor Jim Rodgers described as a "tragedy" the death of 48-year-old former RUC member Ken Hull in a Basra road blast on Saturday.
Mr Hull, who is understood to have been a past member of the Full-Time Reserve, was in a convoy of three vehicles carrying staff from the British consulate when it came under attack.
