(From Belfast Telegraph)
Byline: Lisa Smyth
One in five Ulster workers have confessed to sleeping during work, according to a major survey carried out by an online Northern Ireland recruitment agency.
The surprise statistics were revealed by NIjobs.com, which was trying to establish if sleep, or the lack of it, actually impacts on working life.
Perhaps most worryingly for employers, the survey showed that 86% of workers get less than the recommended eight hours of sleep per night and 77% believe if they get less sleep than usual, their performance at work the next day is less effective than normal.
And over 70% of employees who responded to the survey admitted to regularly feeling tired at work, with over half relying on a caffeine fix to keep them awake.
Almost a third of respondents blamed worry for their fatigue, 20% revealed their social life was to blame, while 19% said stress at work was keeping them awake at night.
