Aug. 2--BANK PROFITS UP 23.4 PERCENT: Commercial bank profits in the second quarter rose 23.4 percent year-on-year to 23.7 billion baht but were down 6.2 percent from the previous quarter, according to the Bank of Thailand.

The central bank said profits were up from the previous year due to higher interest revenues from loan growth as well as higher yields in the capital market. Fee-based income also showed broad gains, while loan-loss provisioning expenses fell from last year.
