Anti-Meth Bill Proceeds In Senate
Sales of cold drugs that can be distilled and cooked to make methamphetamine would be limited under a bill that cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee. Retailers would have to ask for photo ID and limit sales of pseudoephedrine found in pills such as Pfizer's Sudafed.
Hospital Operator Posts Gains
HCA said its earnings rose 15% to 75 cents a share, including an 11-cent tax settlement. Sales grew 4% to $6.1 billion, despite a mixed report on admissions. It plans to sell five hospitals to startup Capella Healthcare. It also plans to sell five others to LifePoint, a company it spun off several years ago.
