THE US and India have presented a joint proposal at WTO trade talks that calls for the establishment of a global information exchange and handling mechanism to enhance customs efficiency, writes John Zarocostas in Geneva.
Trade transaction information that could be exchanged among the WTO's 148 members, notes the paper, would include data elements that relate to the movement of goods across a border such as the name of the exporting and importing party, origin of the goods, description of goods, HS classification, declared value, and shipper.
