NEW rules on air emissions are expected to enter into force in November next year following agreement at the International Maritime Organisation, writes Sandra Speares.
The IMO's Marine Environmental Protection Committee established a new emissions control area in the North Sea in meetings last month.
The new North Sea SOx Emission Control Area will enter into force on November 21, 2006 with full implementation 12 months later.
Marpol Annex VI, which entered into force in May this year, limits sulphur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions from ships.
