The Somali gang holding the crew of a general cargoship have agreed to release most of the men, according to a spokesman for the hostage takers.
Eight Kenyan nationals will be the first to be released following the intervention of Kenya's ambassador to Somalia, Muhammad Abdi Afey.
However, the Sri Lankan master and a Tanzanian crew member will remain on the ship.
Semlow(918 dwt, built 1971) was hijacked on June 27 between Haradhere and Hobyo, 400 km northeast of the capital, Mogadishu, on its way to the Gulf of Aden port of Bossaso in the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland.
The vessel is understood to be operated by Mokatu Shipping Agency, based in Mombasa, Kenya.
