Byline: Spate of acquisitions alter sector's structure, writes Phil Hastings
CONSOLIDATION in the US logistics industry is accelerating, boosted by a continuing flow of company acquisitions.
Meanwhile, the underlying structure of that sector is undergoing fundamental change.
Those are two of the key trends highlighted in a new report, US Logistics 2005, just published by British logistics industry research and analysis organisation Transport Intelligence.
The report explains that the US logistics sector has traditionally comprised a broad range of individual industries.
Some sectors are highly consolidated with barriers to entry, such as express, whereas others are fragmented and characterised by commodity services, for example truckload operations.
