South Korea's Jang Jeong has battled her way through heavy rain and gusting winds to lead the Women's British Open with a first-round four-under-par 68 at Royal Birkdale.

Australia's Karrie Webb had a chance to join the group of eight players on par or better when she was level with two to play.

But she dropped three shots in the final two holes - a bogey into a headwind at the par five 17th and a double-bogey at the last after having to chip out sideways from the rough.
