Questions remain about the circumstances surrounding the arrest of at least 15-20 intellectuals, clerics, and government employees (some early reports put the total of detainees in the several hundreds) in mid-January. Rumors of the discovery of a terrorist bomb plot have not been corroborated, and government officials have only said that the detainees were organizing to undermine national security.
