CLARK SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE-Direct selling, as a concept, has come of age to farmers, fishermen and poultry and livestock raisers in Candaba, Pampanga, who are blessed by the resources of the Candaba Swamp, considered one of the country's three important marshes in terms of biodiversity.
On Friday, they converted an old warehouse across the Department of Foreign Affairs compound here into a marketplace, setting up at least 50 stalls to sell about 20,000 kg of vegetables, fruits, fish, pork, chicken, duck, eggs and food products from those bounties.
The newly harvested produce from the town's 33 villages gave out the colors of rural setting in that abandoned warehouse.
With buyers flocking as early as 6 a.m. when the fair opened, the marketplace pulsated with life.
"Magigisan na la (They're almost gone)," Oscar Manapat said of the brisk sales before noon.
