RP-San Miguel bows to Yanks, winds up 4th.

TAIPEI-The RP-San Miguel squad plodded on despite being down by 21 points, pushing the United States to the limit before falling, 99-96, to finish fourth in the 27th Jones Cup on Sunday.
Asi Taulava scattered 23 points, but made two crucial errors in the end game as the US, which won the title on Saturday night-after the Filipinos lost to the Taiwanese-escaped with its ninth straight win.
It was not so much that the Philippines, which drew the respect of the hostile gallery, was trying to finish second. It would have been understandable, too, if the Filipinos had just folded up after taking that heartbreak loss to the Taiwanese.
The Filipinos wound up with a 6-3 record but could have finished second to the Americans with a victory.
Trailing 59-80 in the third, the Filipinos summoned whatever was left in their battered, tired bodies to make a game out of it in the final 5 minutes 46 seconds. Jondan Salvador capped a 23-4 RP run with a layup off his own steal for 82-84.
