MANILA Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales says he is no great fan of President Macapagal-Arroyo but he doesn't think getting rid of her now is going to do the country any good.
"Is GMA the only corrupt president?" Rosales asked over dinner on Friday with a group of reporters he called to set events of the past two months in the perspective of the powerful Roman Catholic hierarchy.
"Two generations ago, there was a man who ruled us and declared martial law," Rosales said, referring to the dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
"He ran away with so much money. And have we forgotten? How come no one's talking about it anymore as if it had been solved? It hurts me. This is the bigger crime."
Succeeding administrations of Corazon Aquino, Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph Estrada and now, Ms Arroyo, were no different, Rosales said. They all reeked of "massive corruption."
