A-bomb survivor's tale republished
Yomiuri
A book describing the tragedy caused by the atomic bombing of Nagasaki at the end of World War II has been republished by a peace activist to remind people of the "anguish" war can cause.
The book, "Kono Ko o Nokoshite" (Leaving These Children Behind), was written by Takashi Nagai (1908-1951), who lost his wife in the Aug. 9, 1945, atomic bombing of the city.
"The book describes the fear of war and postwar confusion and I hope people can gain something from it," said Masahiro Tanami, 66, of Higashi Murayama, Tokyo, about his decision to republish it.
Nagai, a researcher into radiation medicine at the Nagasaki Medical College, predecessor of Nagasaki University School of Medicine, devoted himself to treating survivors of the atomic bombing, despite losing his wife and being seriously injured himself.
