Dogged pursuits / ARK looks to curb increase of stray canines

In mid-May, 16 of 36 dogs fed by a homeless man near Osaka Castle Park were picked up by the nonprofit animal protection group Animal Refuge Kansai (ARK) in the hope that the organization could find them new homes. The stray dogs are a prime example of what happens when pets are not spayed or neutered.
The 52-year-old homeless man, who lives in a crude shelter in a small park in Osaka Business Park in Chuo Ward, Osaka, began taking care of a female puppy obtained from another homeless man about five years ago.
