Departing from the frilly and embroidered designs that were in vogue among the upper class in the early 20th century, Jill Stuart's range of clothing is undergoing a makeover that offers a more mature femininity.

The U.S. designer's original aim was to help women realize their childhood dreams of wearing beautiful dresses and she soon gained a following among working women in their early 20s.

However, as her customers grew into their late 20s, Stuart created longer skirt lengths with subdued colors, such as gray, to appeal to women who did not feel comfortable with the girlish image in the previous range of clothing.
