Communists won't contest every seat

Yomiuri

In an abrupt change of its long-standing practice, the Japanese Communist Party has decided not to field candidates in every single-seat constituency in the next House of Representatives election.

The move is expected to have some impact on the outcome of the next lower house poll with the main opposition party, Democratic Party of Japan, likely to take the largest number of votes from the JCP.

In the past, the JCP has fielded candidates in all constituencies

However, for the next lower house election, it will change tactics, skipping those constituencies where conditions are not favorable for the party to engage in active day-to-day campaigning, according to JCP secretariat head Tadayoshi Ichida.
