Agency chief 'sacked' over Okinawa stance

In what has been viewed as tantamount to a dismissal, Shoei Yamanaka, director general of the Defense Facilities Administration Agency, will leave his post in early August as part of the Defense Agency's personnel reshuffle, according to sources.

Sources within the government and ruling parties believe his departure is due to his stance regarding the ongoing realignment of U.S. forces in Japan.
