Frenchman Philip Troussier yesterday finally turned his back on the Super Eagles job claiming he needed to undergo a knee operation and thus could not properly perform his duties with the two-time African champions.

This is the second time in recent years that a high profile coach would dump Nigeria after being confirmed for the Super Eagles job last weekend at the NFA's AGM, which held in Akure.

The first to do so was former Brazilian captain Carlos Alberto Pereirra, who in 1995 even flew into Lagos to sign a contract at the then Sports Ministry headquarters at Force Road, Lagos, said he wanted to return to Brazil for a short break before resuming fully. He never came back.
