Jul. 27--The Sankofa Academy Charter School, the Philadelphia suburbs' first "African-centered" charter, set to open in September, is still looking for a home.
School officials said this week it would not open as planned at the Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center in West Chester because they failed to negotiate a lease.
Sankofa was established, its founders said, to provide an alternative for minority children, many of whom are underachieving compared with white peers in regular schools.
