Jul. 27--One Missourian in every 100 experienced financial problems because of gambling, according to a 2004 survey made public Tuesday by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The information came from the state's annual Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey, which for the first time included questions related to gambling. The survey and its findings are part of a national database maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on a wide range of public health issues.
The rate of problem gambling in the Kansas City area was more than double the state average, at 2.1 percent. The survey…
