Vietnam and US will further push up their bilateral ties in the field of economics and trade, agreed US President George W. Bush and Vietnam Prime Minister Phan Van Khai at the White House yesterday.

Khai is the first high-ranking official of the Vietnamese communist-ruled government who has traveled to Washington to meet with a US president.

"We have the population of 80 million people. That means Vietnam is a big market for US firms," said Khai at the press conference after his meeting with President Bush.
